BEHIND THE CURTAIN
I has been a little while since I sent you an email. You may have heard by now that for the past 12 weeks in addition to helping founders and teams with their visibility, I’ve been part of Launchpad, an incubator, growth program, and fund for founders building high-growth software and AI companies.
I joined Launchpad GVL to answer one question: was Dirty Hippie a real business, or just another idea in a long line of ideas I’ve had?
I got my answer. I won the pitch competition at our graduation, Dirty Hippie has been formed, and I’m building the MVP. (it is all happening very fast!)
Dirty Hippie is an on-demand marketplace for garment care. You schedule a pickup laundry, dry cleaning, specialty items — and it comes back clean and handled. You never think about it again.
Here’s the catch. I know just enough to be dangerous, but I’m a non-technical founder. And what I’m building isn’t a service, it’s a marketplace — one where businesses and customers can transact directly, without me as the middle(wo)man holding the whole thing together. Think Doordash or Instacart for garments.
Yes, I could hire a CTO, founding Engineer or someone technical to build this for me, and eventually I will. But right now, I want to understand what I’m building.
I want to know how it works, why certain decisions are being made, what’s possible, and what isn’t. I don’t want the technology behind Dirty Hippie to be a black box that someone else owns and I simply operate and have no idea what is happening.
So for now, I am going to take the AI course that Launchpad is launching later this month.
I may not be the technical founder. But I am the founder, and I want to know exactly what I’m building!!
